Microsoft Photos on Windows 11 brings a new modern commented interface and easy and intuitive operation. However, Windows 11 still significantly darkens photos in the Photos app like its predecessor. It basically renders the correct photo for about a quarter of a second then changes the current brightness level to a much darker and darker shade.

You can use another photo viewer instead, or create a new account to fix it, or choose the Digital Experience solution below with no installation required.

Step 1: You open Search > enter PowerShell to open this application.

Step 2: In the Windows PowerShell window, enter the command below > click Enter.

Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)AppXManifest.xml”}

Step 3: You restart the computer.

If you are not using PowerShell, right-click the Start button on the taskbar > select Windows Terminal (Admin) and run the command in the second step.
